GTA 6 on PS5 Pro: Can It Actually Hit 60FPS?

GTA 6's PS5 Pro Enhanced tag has fans wondering about frame rates. Digital Foundry says 60FPS is unlikely due to CPU limits — so is 40FPS the realistic target?

GTA 6's pre-order page has a little label that's got everyone talking: PS5 Pro Enhanced. And naturally, the big question on every console player's mind is — does that mean 60 frames per second? Let's dig into what we actually know.

The most reliable take comes from Digital Foundry. Their analysis points out that the PS5 Pro's CPU is only about 7% faster than the base PS5's. GTA 6 is a massively CPU-heavy open-world sim — NPCs, physics, traffic, and weather systems all running at once. The bottleneck isn't the GPU here; it's the processor. And a 7% CPU bump simply can't double your frame rate from 30 to 60. Digital Foundry's verdict is pretty clear: even on PS5 Pro, launch is more likely to offer a 30FPS or 40FPS mode rather than 60. The 40FPS option would need a 120Hz display and lands somewhere between the two in feel.

But that "PS5 Pro Enhanced" badge opens another door. Leaks suggest Sony has specific technical requirements for the label — things like higher frame rates, resolution, or ray tracing. Rockstar is reportedly feeling the pressure to meet those standards. If the Enhanced tag demands certain performance targets, a 40FPS mode becomes a real possibility. Still, 40 isn't 60, and even if it exists, it's a compromise — not a fix.

Players are split. Some argue that 30FPS on an OLED screen gets dizzying when you whip the camera around, especially in shooting sections where you need to aim — and without 40FPS or better, they'd rather wait for PC or PS6. Others feel that skipping a game they've waited over a decade for, just because of a 10-frame difference, isn't worth it. They point out that Rockstar's frame pacing has always been solid, so a stable 30FPS might feel better than expected. A middle-ground camp says 40FPS is the sensible expectation, and that 60FPS on current consoles is "a bridge too far."

So where do you land? Will GTA 6 on PS5 Pro end up at 30, 40, or somehow 60? Can you live with a 40FPS mode, or are you holding out for 60 or nothing? Drop your take in the comments — we're all ears.
