Bend Studio's New Game Reportedly Coming 2027, Not Days Gone 2

A new report claims Days Gone developer Bend Studio is working on a third-person co-op game that could be revealed and released in 2027, joining God of War: Laufey in Sony's lineup.

Well, here's a rumor that should get your attention. Bend Studio, the team behind Days Gone, is reportedly cooking up something brand new — and it might be closer than you think.

According to a report from mp1st, the studio is working on a fresh project that's expected to be revealed in 2027, with a release target set for the same year. That's a pretty tight window, but it sounds like things are further along than anyone outside the studio realized.

So what exactly is this game? Word is it's a third-person co-op title, but here's the interesting part: it's apparently not a live-service game. No endless seasons, no battle passes, no constant content treadmill. Just a co-op experience you can play with friends. That's a refreshing change of pace given how many studios have been chasing the live-service dragon lately.

For context, Bend Studio hasn't shipped anything since Days Gone back in 2019. There were rumblings that the team pitched a sequel to Sony, but PlayStation's higher-ups apparently weren't into it at the time. The studio was also reportedly working on a live-service project codenamed Mirror Pond before it got cancelled — and some of its animation assets even leaked out. So this new direction feels like a clean slate.

One thing the report doesn't clarify is whether this new title is a completely fresh IP or connected to something existing. It's definitely not a Days Gone sequel, though, so don't get your hopes up for more Deacon St. John just yet.

The report also notes that plans can always change. Sony could decide to bolt on live-service elements later, or the co-op focus could shift as development progresses. But as of right now, the project is described as a third-person game with co-op features that isn't built around a live-service model.

If everything goes according to plan, this mystery game would slot into Sony's big 2027 lineup alongside God of War: Laufey and an unannounced project from Media Molecule. That's shaping up to be a pretty stacked year for PlayStation fans.

What do you think — are you down for a co-op game from the Days Gone team, or were you holding out hope for a sequel? Let us know in the comments.
