God of War Greek Trilogy Remake Reportedly Targeting 2028, Could Be Cross-Gen
A new leak suggests the God of War Greek trilogy remake won't arrive until at least 2028, possibly launching on both PS5 and PS6 as a cross-gen title.
If you've been holding your breath for the God of War Greek trilogy remake, you might want to take a seat. According to a new roundup from leaker TCMFGames, the project reportedly won't land until 2028 at the earliest โ and it could straddle two console generations.
The remake covers the original three mainline games, all rebuilt from the ground up with modern graphics and gameplay tech. Santa Monica Studio officially confirmed the big project back in February 2026 during a State of Play presentation, but the reveal was brief: just a logo and the voice of Terrence C. Carson, the original Kratos. No gameplay, no release date.
At the time, Santa Monica stressed the remake was still very early in development and asked fans to be patient. According to the latest leak, the trilogy is expected to get a proper reveal in 2027, complete with the first actual gameplay footage. Sony is reportedly aiming for a 2028 launch, which is said to be the earliest realistic window.
Given that three massive games are being remade from scratch and the timeline won't be before 2028, the Greek trilogy remake may adopt a cross-gen strategy โ launching on both PlayStation 5 and the next-generation PlayStation 6. That would let the game reach the existing PS5 player base while also taking advantage of Sony's next-gen hardware.
To bring these classic adventures up to modern standards, the team would need to fully rebuild environments, lighting, character models, physics, and combat mechanics. It's a huge undertaking, which helps explain the long runway.
One big caveat: all of this release timing and development planning is still leak-based for now, so take it with a grain of salt until Sony makes it official. We'll be keeping an eye out for that 2027 reveal.
What do you think โ are you hoping for a cross-gen release, or would you rather see the remake go all-in on PS6? Let us know in the comments.
