Xbox Mythic Achievements Are Coming: How Many Will You Earn?
Xbox's answer to the Platinum Trophy is rolling out to Insiders now, with full completions backdated all the way to the Xbox 360 era.
Ever stared at your Xbox profile and wished it had that shiny Platinum Trophy flex PlayStation players love so much? Well, your wish is finally being granted — Mythic Achievements are officially a thing.
The curtain was pulled back on Mythic Achievements this week, with Xbox's long-rumoured equivalent to the Platinum Trophy rolled out to Xbox Insiders. If you're not in the Insider programme, don't worry — a full public release is set to follow in the coming weeks.
So what exactly counts as a Mythic Achievement? Here's the simple version: you earn one by completing all "original achievements" in an Xbox game. That means you don't need to grind through all the DLC achievements, and you don't need to worry about anything added in a later title update either. Just the core list, done and dusted.
That's a pretty player-friendly definition, and it gets even better. Full completions are being backdated to the Xbox 360 era, so all those games you 100 percented years ago — or even over a decade ago — should count toward your Mythic tally. Suddenly that old Gamerscore grind feels a lot more rewarding, doesn't it?
For anyone who's been hunting achievements since the 360 days, this is a genuinely big moment. PlayStation fans have had Platinum Trophies as a visible badge of honour for years, and Xbox players have been asking for something similar for just as long. Now the platform is finally answering the call.
If you're an Xbox Insider, you can dive in and check your progress right now. Everyone else will need to sit tight for the wider rollout in the coming weeks — but it sounds like the wait won't be long.
So, the big question: how many Mythic Achievements do you reckon you'll have when the dust settles? A handful from your favourite franchises, or a truly ridiculous number built up over multiple console generations? What do you think — and will you be picking this up?
