Take-Two CEO: PC Is Getting Bigger, But GTA 6 Still Hits Consoles First
Take-Two's Strauss Zelnick says PC is becoming increasingly important to the company, but GTA 6 will still launch on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S first on November 19, 2026.
Here's a headline that'll get PC players' hopes up, then gently bring them back down. At Take-Two Interactive's recent annual shareholder meeting, CEO Strauss Zelnick talked platform strategy, and he had some interesting things to say about where the industry is heading.
Zelnick suggested that if traditional console platforms ever stop making business sense, publishers could pivot toward a PC-centric approach. In his words, PC is becoming "more and more important" to the company. That's a pretty notable thing to hear from the boss of a company behind some of the biggest console franchises around.
He backed it up with a concrete example: the NBA 2K series. Around 2007, PC sales made up only about 5% of the franchise's total revenue. These days, Zelnick says PC can account for 45% to 50% of sales for a major release. That's a massive shift, and he sees the industry gradually moving toward more open platforms overall.
But before you start planning your GTA 6 PC pre-order, here's the catch. Zelnick made it clear the launch plan for GTA 6 hasn't changed. The game is confirmed to arrive first on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, with a release date set for November 19, 2026. There's still no word on when a PC version might land.
He also explained the reasoning behind the console-first approach. Launching on PC after the console debut essentially creates a second sales cycle, and some players may end up buying the game more than once. Zelnick stressed that this isn't about any exclusivity deal with Sony, either. It's simply Rockstar's long-standing habit when it comes to releasing games.
One more thing worth noting: Zelnick reiterated that GTA 6 will be a purely single-player experience. Meanwhile, GTA Online will keep getting support alongside the new game. Analysts generally expect a PC version to follow once the console window has passed, though the timing will depend on whatever the official word turns out to be.
So, console first, PC later, and a whole lot of waiting in between. Are you holding out for the PC version, or will you be grabbing it on PS5 or Xbox on day one? Let us know.
