Street Fighter's Chun-Li Actress Is Addicted to Leg Day
Callina Liang, who plays Chun-Li in the live-action Street Fighter movie, says she still trains her legs after filming wrapped — and calls the workouts "healing."
You know that feeling when leg day goes from dread to therapy? That's exactly where Street Fighter's new Chun-Li found herself.
Callina Liang, who plays the iconic fighter in the live-action Street Fighter movie, opened up about the grind behind the role — and how it turned into something she genuinely loves. According to FandomWire, she revealed that even after filming ended, she kept up her leg training and gradually fell for the routine, describing it as a kind of "healing."
The numbers behind her prep are no joke. Before heading to Australia for the shoot, Liang was putting in two hours of training every day. In the six weeks leading up to cameras rolling, that ramped up to four hours daily, with a heavy focus on kicks of every kind.
To make Chun-Li's signature legwork actually convincing, she didn't stop at one discipline. Liang trained in Taekwondo, Muay Thai and martial arts, used resistance bands to build leg strength, and drilled single-leg balances, spinning kicks and jumping kicks over and over. The intensity had a price — she hit the ground more than a few times and picked up plenty of bruises along the way. Still, she credits all that repetition for making her movements sharper and sharper.
And the training gave her more than just screen-ready kicks. Liang said the experience brought unexpected rewards: workouts became part of her daily life, and she's kept at them even with the movie in the rearview mirror. For her, it's not just a job requirement to look the part — it's a way to blow off steam and feel better in her own skin.
Getting Chun-Li's famously powerful build also meant rethinking her plate. Reports note she was eating around 12 eggs a day during training and fueling up every two hours. All that work paid off in a measurable way — by the time filming wrapped, Liang said each of her thighs had gained roughly 6.5 centimeters.
So what do you think — would you survive a Chun-Li-style leg day, or are you tapping out after the first set of spinning kicks? Let us know!
