Satisfactory's New DLC 'Core Values' Promises Underground Building, But Fans Feel a Mix of Excitement and Dread

Coffee Stain Studios announced 'Core Values,' the first paid DLC for Satisfactory, taking building deep underground. But for one fan, the news brings more fear than joy.

How do you feel when your favorite game gets a big expansion? Excited, right? But for some Satisfactory players, the announcement of 'Core Values'—the first paid DLC—brings a complicated mix of emotions. The trailer reveals the construction sim is taking building deep underground for the first time, with new resources, flora, fauna, and more. It's a major expansion, and it's coming 'later,' but you can wishlist it on Steam right now.

On paper, this should be a pure 'Yes!' moment. But as one fan put it, it's more like a stuttering, uncertain 'Yes! Yes!! Yes!? Yes!?!? Yesssss??? Yesssssss?????'—because while a small part is excited to return, a bigger part knows that dipping back into Satisfactory for even a day will reignite an all-consuming hunger. It'll be all they think about, all they want to play as soon as they log off work. No new games, no movies—just endless ways to optimize construction chains for five more encased steel beams per minute.

And you get it, right? That feeling of a game that puts your brain in a vice grip as soon as you start thinking about it. One minute you're having fun laying down train tracks, the next you're literally dreaming about how much is left to build before you're 'done.' Perhaps that's what's so scary about the expansion: the blunt acknowledgement that it—and you—may never be done. Not when you're six feet under, or 600.

For many, Satisfactory has that effect. With around 400 hours across a few years, one player's time is relatively mundane compared to friends and colleagues who have dizzying hour counts in games like WoW, Dota 2, and Final Fantasy 14. But those 400 hours still left an unfinished monolith—a grand ambition to route trains from across the entire map into one enormous central tower visible from miles away. They kind of want to finish it one day. But they also know that returning will mean the game takes over again.

There might even be some lingering Covid trauma tied up in this dread, since a good chunk of lockdown months were spent playing Satisfactory nearly every single day. But it was still enjoyed in 2025, too. It's just that rare game that grabs hold and doesn't let go. So while 'Core Values' promises new underground adventures and fresh challenges, for some, it's also a reminder of the endless pull of optimization.

What about you? Are you excited to go underground in Satisfactory, or does the thought of another hundred hours terrify you? Will you be picking up 'Core Values' when it launches? Let us know in the comments!
