Pokopia's First Halloween Event: Pumpkaboo Brings Tricks and Treats

Pokémon Pokopia's first Halloween event, Pumpkaboo's Sweet Surprises, runs from October 17 to November 1. Collect candy, unlock spooky items, and build a habitat for Gourgeist.
Ready for some spooky fun in Pokopia? The game's first Halloween event, Pumpkaboo's Sweet Surprises, is creeping in from 5am on October 17 until November 1, based on your Switch 2 system's clock. So, time travelers, no cheating!
Just like previous events, you'll get new Pokémon, decorations, and habitats. But this time, you'll need a new currency: candy. Pumpkaboo is the star of the show, and you can start the event by talking to the dual-type Pokémon outside finished Town Centers. He'll trade you spooky items, but he wants pumpkin candy in return.
We don't know the full item lineup yet, but promotional images show Jack-O-Lanterns, spooky trees, and a glowing ghost decoration. To collect candy, you'll need to have at least started the Bleak Beach area to get Zorua's Camouflage ability. During the event, use Camouflage to play tricks on your Pokémon, turning into their favorite items and then surprising them with your true Ditto form. Yep, your Pokémon will reward you for scaring and disappointing them.
Like previous events, some Halloween items can be used to build a new habitat. This time, you can work toward building the habitat for Pumpkaboo's evolution, Gourgeist. Both Pokémon will stick around after the event ends, so you can permanently add some spookier Ghost-types to your Pokopia areas.
We've had nothing but praise for Pokopia since launch, highlighting its "surprisingly deep world" in our original 9/10 review. With the cadence of updates, that world just keeps getting bigger. The previous in-game event, Fetching Scales for Feeba, was released soon after the massive 2.0 update and Bubbly Basin DLC.
So, will you be diving into Pumpkaboo's Sweet Surprises? What spooky items are you hoping to snag? Let us know in the comments!
