Nintendo Hints at More Remakes After Ocarina of Time Success
A Nintendo exec says new games and remakes are equally important, suggesting more classic revivals are coming to Switch 2 after Star Fox and Ocarina of Time hits.
Looks like Nintendo's remake train isn't slowing down anytime soon. Fresh off a pair of N64-era revivals on Switch 2, the company is already hinting that more classics could be making a comeback.
According to Insider Gaming, 2026 has seen two full remakes of N64-era franchises arrive on the platform. The Star Fox remake has been winning over both longtime fans and newcomers, putting up solid sales numbers along the way. And The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake, which just launched, is getting similarly glowing reception.
In a recent interview, Nintendo's Senior Vice President of Product Development and Publishing, Nate Bihldorff, opened up about the company's approach to its lineup. He made it clear that brand-new original titles and remakes hold equal weight in Nintendo's plans. Every IP has its own fans, he noted, and while new entries in a series are always exciting, bringing truly meaningful older games back to players carries just as much value.
That comment is being read as a strong signal that Switch 2 owners can expect plenty more classic remakes down the road. Of course, Nintendo hasn't named any specific titles yet, so which beloved game gets the remake treatment next is still anyone's guess until an official announcement lands.
For now, the takeaway is simple: if you've been hoping your favorite retro Nintendo game gets a fresh coat of paint, the door is very much open. The company clearly sees remakes as more than filler between big releases.
