Call of Duty on Switch 2 Runs Solid 30FPS, DLSS Shines Says Digital Foundry

Digital Foundry's early look at Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 on Switch 2 finds DLSS beats Filmic SMAA for cleaner edges and sharper textures, with a stable 30FPS target.

Call of Duty is finally back on a Nintendo console after 13 years, and the tech experts at Digital Foundry have some good news. In an early assessment reported by Wccftech and cited by Nintendo Life, the Switch 2 version of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 holds up well, especially when you flip on NVIDIA DLSS.

According to Tom Morgan of Digital Foundry, DLSS and Filmic SMAA on Switch 2 use the same pixel data and the same rendering resolution, but DLSS comes out ahead for two reasons. First, its edge handling is smarter—it uses accumulated frame data to rebuild details, cutting down on jagged stair-step edges and giving lines a cleaner look. Second, it sharpens clarity on more complex, uneven details like textures. Decals on doors and vegetation both get a noticeable boost.

As for performance, the Switch 2 version targets 30 FPS, and the overall package is described as a "pretty stable, complete port." That's a solid result for a series making its long-awaited return to Nintendo hardware. If you're planning to play on the go or on the big screen, you can expect a consistent experience rather than a compromised one.

Beyond the tech side, the game supports cross-platform multiplayer and cross-platform progression, so you can squad up with friends on other systems and keep your unlocks no matter where you play. The official release date is October 23.

It's been a long wait for Nintendo fans, and early signs suggest the port isn't an afterthought. DLSS doing heavy lifting on Switch 2 could also set a precedent for future third-party shooters on the platform.
